Wood is a natural material so it varies from one piece to another. That is why we must use a quality classification system according to two variables:
- Surface and visual appearance.
- Gluing quality.
This quality system allows the user to select the appropriate material according to the use that will be made of it. The classification, although generally applicable worldwide, may vary depending on the country in which the plywood is produced.

Qualities according to surface
B QUALITY
This grade shows the natural appearance of the wood. Normally the surface must be free of knots, although smooth and healthy knots of small diameter (15-35 mm) are allowed. There may be small variations in the colour shown by the grain pattern.
BB QUALITY
This grade is similar to grade B, but it allows larger knots and repairs on the surface. It can have smooth and healthy knots, which usually have a diameter of less than 50 mm. The open knots can be repaired with wooden blocks. The material is suitable for applications where the visual appearance is not critical.
C QUALITY
This grade of plywood is structurally solid, but allows flaws in the surface of the material. Flaws may include open knots, discolouration and divisions. The material is suitable for applications where the resistance of the plywood is necessary but the appearance does not matter.
Qualities according to gluing
One of the key elements in the production of plywood boards is the glues/resins that are applied to the gluing of the different veneers. As we have already mentioned, depending on the use and application required, you must choose among the different qualities available. For example, if your final product needs resistance to water or moisture, the glue should work effectively in this scenario.
